Cognizant and CrowdStrike have expanded their collaboration with a managed operational-technology security service designed to protect organizations running converged IT and industrial environments.

Called Cognizant Cybersecurity for Operational Technology, the service is powered by CrowdStrike Falcon for XIoT. The companies said it combines Cognizant’s industrial engineering expertise and managed security operations with CrowdStrike’s visibility and protection across extended Internet of Things and IT environments.

The launch addresses a growing operational challenge: industrial organizations are adding connectivity, remote access and IIoT systems to environments that still contain legacy assets and process-control technology. That can create attack surfaces that conventional enterprise security programs do not fully address. In an OT setting, a cyberattack can affect production, safety systems and other critical operations.

The companies said the service is intended to provide lifecycle-based security operations for organizations operating across IT and OT. That includes managed monitoring and response, asset visibility and assistance with deploying and operating the underlying security technology. The announcement does not describe a single autonomous response capability or publish performance benchmarks, so customers will need to evaluate the managed-service scope and implementation details in their own environment.

For IT teams, the value of a combined approach is that it can bring security telemetry from industrial systems into a more unified operating model. Security teams can have trouble investigating events when endpoint, network and operational data are held in separate tools or owned by separate departments. A service built around both domains could reduce those blind spots, provided the organization has reliable asset inventories and clear escalation paths.

OT also changes the calculus for automation. A response that is routine in a conventional enterprise environment may be inappropriate for a production system if it risks interrupting a process or creating a safety issue. Organizations adopting the service will still need asset owners, security leaders and operations teams to agree on monitoring coverage, incident escalation and the actions that may be taken automatically.

Cognizant and CrowdStrike positioned the offering as a way to address the increasing convergence of IT and OT. The partnership provides another option for organizations that need industrial context alongside managed detection and response, rather than treating plant and operational systems as a separate security program.

For end users, the potential benefit is more continuous protection of critical operations without forcing internal teams to operate every security component themselves. The result will depend on how the service is integrated with an organization’s existing controls, production processes and incident-response plans.

The service also highlights a practical distinction between visibility and response. Collecting telemetry from industrial assets is only useful when security and operations teams can interpret it in context and decide on a safe next step. Mature programs will need asset classification, documented maintenance windows, tested escalation paths and clear ownership for remote access. Those controls can make managed monitoring more actionable while limiting the risk that a security response unintentionally affects availability or safety.

The announcement frames the offering as a managed service, not a claim that the platforms can autonomously secure every industrial environment. Organizations should expect to define coverage, response playbooks and accountability during implementation. That work is central to realizing the promised operational benefit: fewer disconnected security processes across systems that cannot tolerate careless disruption.
