Telos Corporation has received a $34.3 million task order to deploy its Xacta.ai platform across the Air Force Intelligence Community, a project intended to automate parts of cybersecurity risk management and assessment work that has traditionally required manual effort.

The order comes through a single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract from Air Combat Command’s Directorate of Intelligence. It has a five-month base period and four one-year option periods. Telos said the contract’s ceiling value would reach $37.775 million if every option is exercised.

The technology at the center of the work is Xacta.ai, Telos’ artificial-intelligence extension to its Xacta governance, risk and compliance platform. The company said it will use the system across Air Force Intelligence Community security boundaries to support a more data-driven cybersecurity assurance program.

Telos describes Xacta as software for automating and streamlining cybersecurity, compliance and risk-management processes in complex enterprise environments. In this deployment, the company said Xacta.ai will apply AI and automation to assessment and authorization activities, with the stated goals of reducing administrative workload, improving accuracy and increasing visibility into cyber risk.

That distinction matters because assessment and authorization work is often a recurring operational process rather than a one-time compliance exercise. Security teams must collect evidence, evaluate controls, coordinate reviews and maintain records across systems and boundaries. Automating pieces of that process can change how staff spend time, but the announcement does not specify which assessment steps will be automated, which decisions will remain with human reviewers, or how accuracy will be measured.

The Air Force Intelligence Community deployment will also include configuration and integration work for dependent systems, Telos said. The company plans to use that work to support Zero Trust principles, provide workforce-adoption training and deliver cybersecurity expertise aligned with Department of War workforce qualification requirements.

For IT and security leaders outside government, the announcement is notable as a large-scale example of AI being applied to governance and compliance operations rather than only to detection or analytics. The operational value of this type of system depends on whether it can bring control evidence, authorization workflows and risk information into a process that is timely enough to guide decisions.

Telos said the platform is designed to help organizations accelerate compliance activity and improve decision-making. Those are vendor statements, and the release does not provide independent performance results or information about the specific integrations planned for the Air Force Intelligence Community.

The contract also underscores the need to separate automation from autonomy in security governance. A platform may automate data collection, workflow routing and analysis, while accountability for risk acceptance and authorization remains with people. The release refers to AI-powered capabilities but does not say that Xacta.ai will independently approve security decisions.

If the implementation proceeds as planned, the primary end-user benefit will be less manual administrative work for teams responsible for continuous cyber assurance, alongside a more consolidated view of risk across the environment. The scale and specialized mission context make the project significant, though the release leaves many of the technical and operational details to the implementation phase.
